Getting started
Which watches and rings work with Laya?
On Android, any watch, ring or app that writes your sleep, heart and activity to Health Connect, for example Samsung Health or Fitbit. Laya reads Health Connect, so it works with what you already wear.
Laya for iPhone is coming soon. It will read Apple Health.
How do I connect Health Connect?
Laya asks for Health Connect permissions the first time you open it. To change them later:
- In Laya, open Settings›Sources & sync.
- Or open Health Connect itself (on Android 14 and later it is in your phone’s Settings: search “Health Connect”), then App permissions›Laya, and allow what you want Laya to read.
- Check that your watch app is allowed to write to Health Connect too. That setting lives in the watch app, for example Samsung Health’s settings.
Allowing access to past data lets Laya learn your usual from the history you already have.
How long until Laya knows my usual?
About a week of nights. If you allow Laya to read past data, it starts from the history already in Health Connect and can be ready sooner. Some things wait until then: plans, for example, open once Laya knows your usual, so a trial never runs out before you have seen what it does.
When data looks late or missing
Why is last night missing, or arriving late?
Laya can only show what your watch app has already written to Health Connect. Most delays come from that first step. In order:
- Open your watch app (Samsung Health, Fitbit and so on) and let it sync. Many only write to Health Connect when they sync.
- Set battery use to Unrestricted for both Laya and your watch app: app info›Battery›Unrestricted. Android pauses apps to save battery, so mornings can start out of date. Laya’s own notice opens the right page for you.
- On Samsung phones, also make sure neither app is in Sleeping apps: Settings›Battery›Background usage limits.
- Pull down on Today to read again.
Settings›Sources & sync shows when each source last synced, so you can see which step is behind.
Why does Laya show a different number from my watch app?
Laya works out its own scores, each against your usual, so they will not always match your watch maker’s. Tap any number to see which device and readings it came from and when they last synced. If two devices recorded the same night, Laya uses one so nothing is counted twice, and you can choose which source wins.
Settings›How Laya works explains what each score is made of.
Laya seems stuck loading. What can I do?
- Pull down on Today to refresh.
- Check that Health Connect permissions are still on (see “How do I connect Health Connect?”).
- Close Laya fully and open it again.
- If it keeps happening, send a bug report from Settings›Help & feedback so we can see what went wrong.
Plans and purchases
What is free?
Everything Laya shows you about your own body: sleep, recovery and movement against your usual, every sleep of the day, trends, where each number came from, strength from a Hevy export, cycle logging, the doctor checklist and its PDF, recaps, export and backup. No trial, no account, no ads. Plus adds deeper analysis that also runs on your phone. Nothing that is free today ever becomes paid.
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?
Sign in to the same Google account (or Apple Account on iPhone), then open Settings›Subscription›Restore purchases. If your plan is linked to your email instead, choose Sign in with email there and enter the code we send.
How do I cancel?
- Android: Google Play › your profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Laya › Cancel.
- iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Laya.
- In Laya: Settings›Subscription opens the right page.
Uninstalling Laya does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and you keep everything you made.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Write to us within 7 days of any payment and we refund it, no questions asked. You can also ask Google Play directly. For App Store purchases, only Apple can refund: use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
Where is my data kept?
Only on your phone. Laya reads Health Connect and works everything out there; we never receive your health data. The privacy policy lists the few things that do leave the phone.
Does Laya collect usage analytics?
Only if you say yes. Laya asks once during setup whether it may send anonymous usage events, such as which screens you open, to help us improve the app. They never include a health value, anything you type, or a recording of your screen. Turn it on or off, or reset the anonymous install id, in Laya’s Settings at any time. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I export my data?
Settings›Your data›Export as files saves every day, night, tag and review Laya holds as CSV and JSON in one zip file, wherever you choose. Sensitive data and workout routes are included only if you tick them. The doctor checklist makes its own one-page PDF.
How do I move Laya to a new phone?
Laya’s data is left out of Android’s cloud backup on purpose, so it never leaves your phone without you. Use Settings›Your data›Back up everything to save one file where you choose, then Restore from a backup on the new phone.
How do I delete my data?
Settings›Privacy›Delete everything removes everything Laya holds on the phone and returns it to setup. There is no undo and no other copy, so export first if you want to keep anything. Uninstalling Laya also deletes it.
Data your devices wrote to Health Connect stays there; manage it in Health Connect. If you signed in with email for a website purchase, Settings›Subscription›Delete my data on Laya’s servers removes your sign-in and plan record.
Laya is a wellness app, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you feel unwell, or before any medical decision, talk to a doctor.
